A survey by the Consortium of Researchers on Governance released yesterday at the White Rhino Hotel in Nyeri Town shows  Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is the most popular Mt Kenya leader with an  86.1% approval rating.

The respondents distributed proportionate to the number of registered voters in wards (in 64 constituencies) as per the IEBC  2022 Voters Register, said the DP is a leader providing regional solutions to some of the key issues facing their region, a thing that has earned him (Gachagua) widespread support across the ten Mt Kenya counties.

Rigathi Gachagua’s approval rating from the study conducted between 19th to 29th March 2024 to track Mt Kenya’s elected leader’s popularity significantly surpasses other political figures in the region, with a notable gap between his approval and that of other leaders evident from the survey results.

Despite the diversity of opinions within the region, Rigathi Gachagua’s popularity remains consistently high across various demographic groups, reflecting a broad base of support from different segments of the population.

“A total of 4,000 respondents (registered voters) were targeted in the 10 counties; 3,540 contacted and 3,266 interviewed; male 54.3 percent and female 45.7 percent. The sample size had a 95 percent confidence level and a 2.3 percent margin of error.”

Respondents perceive Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as a capable leader who is actively engaged in addressing the region’s challenges and advocating for its interests at the national level.

On issues affecting the residents, the survey ranks illicit brew (22.9 percent) at the top followed by coffee (19.3), unemployment (18.1) followed by tea (16) while macadamia and avocados scored 3.2 and 2.6 percent respectively. Other issues affecting the residents stood at 3.2 percent.

The DP’s commitment to supporting farmers and agricultural development has addressed concerns of Mt Kenya farmers about production and profitability to ensure a sustainable livelihood for rural communities.

The region’s farmers are mainly engaged in the tea, coffee, avocado, macadamia and dairy sectors.
