Former President Uhuru Kenyatta made a brief appearance at the funeral of King’ori Mwangi in Tetu, Nyeri County, on Saturday, February 17. King’ori Mwangi, a former Assistant Inspector General of Police, passed away on February 11 while undergoing medical treatment.

Despite his brief visit, Uhuru Kenyatta paid his respects to the late Mwangi, joining mourners at the Ndugamano grounds before departing shortly thereafter.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was en route from Kirinyaga, arrived at the funeral only to find that the former head of state had already left. Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandetto explained that Uhuru Kenyatta had to leave early as he had another funeral to attend. However, he ensured that his apologies were conveyed to Deputy President Gachagua for his early departure.

Wandetto stated, “The former president was here, and we informed him that you (Gachagua) were on your way, but you were occupied elsewhere. He asked us to pass on his apologies to you because he had wanted to stay, but he had to go and offer condolences to another family.”
