Millionaire hosting AFC Leopards camp in Western Region

The flamboyant Kiminini Member of Parliament Maurice Bisau hosted Kenya Premier League side AFC Leopards in Kitale for a friendly match against Kiminini Combined FC on the new year eve at the Ndura sports complex in Tranz Nzoia county.

The first term legislator noted  the move to host the top tier side is in line with his August 9 pre-election promise to support the growth and development of sporting activities especially football in the area.

“Kiminini combined FC  is a 45 man squad drawn from all the 6 wards in the constituency and the youngsters will have a friendly game with AFC Leopards SC which is one of the most decorated and historical team in Kenyan football history on 31st December 2022 at the Ndura sports complex-Kitale.Am committed to use my international network to ensure a number of our local youngsters have an opportunity to play in top foreign leagues.”part of his statement read.

Ingwe team manager Albert Wesonga thanked the lawmaker for the gesture and further asked other leaders from Western part of Kenya to emulate on him in a bid to enhance nurturing of talent at the grassroots where there is plenty of untapped potential.

“I’m impressed by Hon Bisau’s unwavering love for sports particularly football and moreso to come up with a team which he seeks to sponsor and play in the national Division 2 league. As key stakeholders of the game we shall passionately support his efforts and I want to call upon more leaders in Western to follow suit and prioritise enough funding of football initiatives to empower youth upcountry” he said

The team will be using the match to prepare for the Kenya Premier League campaign this season as they currently sit ninth on the log after sharing spoils with Kakamega Homeboys in a Western derby before the Christmas break.

Team head coach Patrick Aussems has reiterated his commitment towards guiding the side to stardom despite enduring a torrid time in the opening five matches of the 2022/23 season having managed just one win and registering two draws and a similar number of losses.

“For me, the AFC Leopards’ season starts in January because we will have more players and I will be able to train and use all my group. In the five games, under very difficult circumstances it had not been easy,” the tactician said.

Their start to the new campaign was dealt a blow when ten of their players were not cleared to play just before the commencement of the new season due to a transfer ban that had been slapped on the club by FIFA.
