President William Ruto will depart the country today, Tuesday, April 2, 2024, for a three-day State Visit to Ghana, marking a watershed point in Kenya-Ghana ties. The forthcoming visit demonstrates both nations’ shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties for mutual benefit.

State House Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam affirmed the impending visit, stating, “This visit is a significant step towards strengthening the longstanding relationship between Kenya and Ghana.”

The Head of State will meet Ghana’s President Nana Akufo Ado during his visit, where he is also expected to drum up support for Raila Odinga’s AU Commission Chairperson bid.

President Ruto’s maiden visit to Ghana since assuming office in September 2022 is set to pave the way for the signing of pivotal bilateral agreements encompassing key sectors such as trade, investment, education, research, public service, and capacity building.

In a bid to bolster economic ties, Ghana had previously unveiled plans to enhance business relations with Kenya through initiatives like the Export Trade House (ETH) under the AfCFTA framework. Notably, Kenya’s exports to Ghana reached $10.3 million (Sh1.4 billion) in 2021, with key products including locally made batteries.
