Musician Major Nameye Khadija, popularly known as Mejja, has opened up about his financial arrangements, revealing that he has entrusted his wealth to his mother.
In a candid interview with Radio Maisha, Mejja disclosed that his assets are registered under his mother’s name, a decision he made based on trust and security.
The musician, known for his close bond with his mother, explained that he designated her as the next of kin for his assets because he trusts her implicitly.
Despite having a girlfriend, Mejja emphasized that he is still in the process of getting to know her and therefore cannot entrust her with such significant responsibility at this time.
“For now, I’ll have my mother as the next of kin until I find the right person to fill her shoes. You can’t just entrust someone with your wealth without knowing them well,” Mejja stated, highlighting the cautious approach he takes towards financial matters.
Raised in Nyeri’s Majengo slums, Mejja explained that he adopted his mother’s second name as his surname to honor her for single-handedly raising him and his brothers after their father left.
“I call myself Khadija because my father was a sperm donor. As a child, I didn’t understand the sacrifices she made for us. Sometimes, I would find her crying in the house and she’d act like nothing was wrong
He described his mother as his inspiration and role model, acknowledging the sacrifices she made for their family.
“When I grew up and had my family, I realized she went through a lot to raise three boys. After coming to Nairobi, people would always comment about the name saying it’s a woman’s so I started insisting mtoto wa Khadija. She’s my inspiration,” he said.
Despite not being in a relationship with their mother, Mejja emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong family unit and being present for his children.
He expressed his determination to provide them with the support and guidance they need, drawing from his own experiences growing up.
