A man was killed by a lion at a wildlife park in India after climbing a 25-foot fence to take a selfie with the animal.
The man, identified locally as 38-year-old Prahlad Gujjar from Alwar in Rajasthan, entered the non-public area of Sri Venkateswara Wildlife Park in Andhra Pradesh, ignored a guard’s warning to leave the lion, and jumped into the enclosure on Thursday.
Before the guard could respond, the Dongalpur lion attacked and killed the man.
Investigative authorities are currently conducting a post-mortem examination on the man’s body and are reportedly looking into whether Gujjar was intoxicated when he jumped the 25-foot fence.
Gujjar was alone in the wildlife park, and police are working to contact his family.
The zoo has three lions including Dongalpur; the others are named Kumar and Sundari.
Dongalpur has been relocated to a cage and is under observation since the fatal attack.
