Residents of Busia found themselves in the midst of an unconventional rescue operation after a suspected thief took desperate measures to evade capture.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday, January 12, when alert citizens intercepted the suspect and his gang en route to committing a crime.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the residents’ vigilance was sparked when one individual shone a torchlight on the group around 1 am. In an attempt to escape the pursuing citizens, the suspect, seemingly unaware of the adjacent building being a latrine, impulsively jumped into the pit in an effort to conceal himself.

The alarmed resident promptly raised an alarm, initiating an unexpected turn of events.

The unusual circumstances left residents puzzled about the suspect’s maneuver, as they questioned how he managed to fit inside the latrine hole.

Omondi Ndiki, a local area administrator, shed light on the situation, stating, “A torchlight was shown at the three suspects at around 1 am, and in the process of escaping, the suspect jumped and fell into the pit latrine.”

As dawn broke, Busia residents mobilized a rescue operation with a dual objective – to save the suspect and assess the structural integrity of the latrine.
