President William Ruto has postponed the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections following a meeting held by the party’s National Steering Committee.

In a statement on Saturday,   UDA Secretary-General Cleophas Malala explained the ruling party’s elections will not take place on the scheduled December 9, 2023, after a meeting with President William Ruto, and instead,  UDA members will elect their grassroots leaders in three clusters from April 12, 19th, and 26th respectively.

”Following a deliberative meeting of UDA’s National Steering Committee chaired by the Party Leader HE President William Ruto, the Party has resolved to postpone the scheduled December 9th elections to 12th, 19th and 26th April 2024 respectively, the statement reads in part.

Last month, at the ruling party’s inaugural National Governing Council (NGC) meeting at the Bomas of Kenya, President Ruto directed current party officials led by Secretary General Cleophas Malala to ensure the party holds its grassroots elections on December 9th.
