President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua are headed to Mt Kenya for a five-day development tour, starting tomorrow, 5th August to  9th August where the duo will launch a number of mega government projects in the vote-rich region that overwhelmingly voted for the new administration in the last elections.

During the presidential campaigns last year, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,  as the then running mate for the  Kenya Kwanza Alliance Alliance presidential candidate (William Ruto) told Mt Kenya residents if they elected him to be Kenya’s Deputy President,  they (residents) would be frequently invited to Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri to partake in sumptuous rice and beef meals with the President. Which was a metaphor to explain how the region will benefit under Ruto’s presidency.

On Friday, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed highlighted a number of projects to be unveiled by President Ruto during his tour, initiatives which he said are in line with the Kenya Kwanza Administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Agenda (BETA).

According to the Spokesperson, President William Ruto will Commission the Githurai Water Supply Project, which will benefit 500,000 residents and connect 8,400 people to clean and safe water. The Head of State will also commission the redevelopment of Githurai Market as part of his commitment to building 400 markets in 3 years to dignify Mama Mboga’s.

He will commission the Kagio water supply project in Kagio Town, Kirinyaga County, and the upgrade of the 42.5 km Marua – Kwa Wambui Road.

Ruto will next launch the upgrading to bitumen standards and maintenance of the 45km Ichamara – Kariti road in Mukurweini, then commission the Kaigonji and Othaya water projects which will benefit 60,000 people with 216 new sewer connections, and thereafter open the Nyeri Stage and Bus Park.

The President will also chair a Cabinet meeting at Sagana State Lodge and host a regional leaders conference at the same venue on Tuesday.

Later,  he will open a three-storeyed, 175-bed capacity Level IV Hospital in Naromoru, and witness the groundbreaking of the Gichugu Affordable Housing Program in Kirinyaga County, which is part of the 200 units per constituency program. The project entails the construction of 140 housing units.

On Wednesday, Ruto will again preside over the groundbreaking of the housing project in Thika, Kiambu County, which will provide 975 units, with 20% of the units reserved for civil servants.
