As the campaign to rejuvenate Kenyan football and replace the embattled current FKF president Nick Mwendwa intensifies, former Harambee Stars midfielder Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino has embarked on a comprehensive nationwide tour in his efforts to turn around the fortunes of the sport in the country.

With a vision to revitalize Kenyan football and usher in a new era of progress, Kempes’s tour aims to engage stakeholders across various regions, understand their concerns, and present his platform for the future of the sport in the country.

Kempes’s tour, aptly named the ‘Stakeholders Tour,’ kicked off with visits to the Nyanza, Western, and Rift Valley regions—areas renowned for their vibrant football culture and rich talent pool.

In his recent visit to Western Kenya, The United States-based former footballer  held productive meetings with stakeholders at Bukhungu Stadium.

The discussions centered on key issues affecting football development in the region, including infrastructure, grassroots programs, and youth empowerment.

One of the highlights of Kempes’s tour was his meeting with Elly Mukolwe, a seasoned football administrator and former NEC Western Kenya Elder. Guided by Mukolwe’s expertise, Kempes gained valuable insights into the intricacies of infrastructure development in Kenya.

Beyond Western Kenya, Kempes’s tour will extend to the Central and Coast regions before culminating on the 22nd of this month.

Throughout his journey, Kempes aims to foster dialogue, build partnerships, and garner support for his candidacy.

His inclusive approach, characterized by openness and transparency, has earned him praise from stakeholders who view him as a catalyst for positive change in Kenyan football.

In addition to engaging stakeholders, Kempes has also met with FKF candidates from the lower Rift Valley and Nyanza regions.

Kempes, backed by fellow former internationals including John Bobby Ogolla, Elly Adero, Richard Madegwa, Robert Matano, Sammy Sholei, and Jacob Mulei, as well as former FKF official Elly Mukolwe among other prominent leaders, is set to vie for the FKF presidency in elections slated for October this year.
