President William Ruto Makes Changes in KDF Leadership

President William Ruto has announced key promotions and appointments within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). He implemented the adjustments today, Friday, March 8 2024.

“I am pleased to promote Major General Charles Muriu Kahariri to the rank of Lieutenant General and appoint him as the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces,” stated President Ruto, highlighting the importance of these advancements in bolstering KDF’s leadership.

Lieutenant General Jonah Maina Mwangi will be succeeded by Lieutenant General Charles Muriu Kahariri in his new role.

Furthermore, President Ruto has elevated Major General David Kimaiyo Tarus to the rank of Lieutenant General, entrusting him with the position of Commander Kenya Army. This appointment follows the conclusion of Lieutenant General Peter Mbogo Njiru’s distinguished 39-year tenure.

In a statement released by KDF, the President’s decisions were further outlined: “I have also promoted Major General Jimson Longiro to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him as the Vice-Chancellor of National Defence University. Additionally, Brigadier Thomas Njoroge Ng’ang’a has been promoted to Major General and appointed as the Commander Kenya Navy.”

These changes signal a new chapter in KDF’s leadership landscape, with Major General Juma Shee Mwinyikai, Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan, Brigadier Luka Kipkemoi Kutto, Major General Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu, Major General John Maison Nkoimo, and Brigadier Peter Shikuku Chelimo also assuming vital roles in various commands and institutions within the military structure.
