Lang’ata lawmaker Felix Odiwuor, widely known as Jalang’o, has shared insights on why he quit Milele FM, where he served as a radio presenter.

The renowned entertainer parted ways with the Mediamax Network-owned radio station in 2020 amidst reported contractual disagreements with the management.

During an interview with Alex Mwakideu on Radio 47, Jalang’o revealed his firm opposition to a proposed salary reduction during what he described as a challenging period.

“I firmly rejected the idea of having my salary deducted during such a challenging period.” He emphasized.

Despite the reported success of his radio show in generating income, the management insisted on implementing a pay cut for all employees.

Jalang’o reluctantly agreed to the pay cut initially but found himself faced with a new quandary when asked to sign a new contract alongside his colleagues.

Feeling disillusioned, he made the decisive choice to leave the job, stating, “I called Mwakideu at night and told him that I was not going to report to work the following morning. I quit the job. I was jobless for two hours.”

Reflecting on his time at Milele FM, Jalang’o expressed pride in the transformative impact he and his colleagues had on Swahili radio, turning their show into one of Kenya’s most popular programs.

“We revolutionized the radio industry and turned our show into the number one most-listened-to program in Kenya when working for Radio Maisha.” He recounted

Despite his efforts to negotiate a salary increase, which were rebuffed by the management, Jalang’o ultimately decided to resign.

Jalang’o’s departure from Milele FM marked a significant transition in his career, as he later joined Hot96, where his show gained immense popularity.

His illustrious radio career also includes stints at Radio Maisha and Kiss FM.

In 2022, Jalang’o made a pivotal shift from radio to politics, currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Lang’ata constituency. H
