Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyongo, his Deputy Mathew Owili, and Kisumu County Manager Abala Wanga risk a six-month jail term or fines for disobeying court orders that had barred them from taking over the Ofafa Memorial Hall.

On 24th January 2024, Justice Samson Okong’o extended temporary orders barring Governor Nyong’o and the county government of Kisumu from any activities at the facility until an earlier application is heard and determined.

The three want the Kisumu Governor, the Deputy Governor, the Acting County Secretary, and the City Manager found in contempt after disobeying orders issued by Justice Esther Asati on 15th December 2023.

The Environment Court judge had issued orders restraining the defendants from convening the Jaramogi Odinga memorial and other activities at the Ofafa Memorial Hall.

Application set to be heard on 6th March 2024.
