The Umiru Market in Yala, Siaya County, is in mourning following the discovery of one of its own who was found dead, apparently having taken her own life by hanging.

According to the police report, the body of 27-year-old Vera Amondi Okoth was found hanging in the bathroom with a rope around her neck.

It is alleged that before taking this drastic step, the young woman had complained that out of the 500 job applications she had submitted, she hadn’t received any responses.

The police report states that Vera’s mother went to wake her up in the morning, but she wasn’t in her room. Upon checking the bathroom, she was shocked to find her daughter’s lifeless body.

“Vera Amondi Okoth’s mother went to wake her up, but it became evident she wasn’t in her room. She went to the bathroom and found the body hanging,” says the report seen by Taifa Leo.

When the Yala police arrived at the scene, they examined the body and found no visible injuries.

After the incident, it was reported that the young woman had asked her mother whether she would ever be lucky enough to secure a job.

The police also discovered that she had a Bachelor of Science degree awarded to her in 2019 from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

Although there was no suicide note left behind explaining the reason for her actions, her certificates were found on the bed.

The body is being preserved at the Siaya mortuary awaiting autopsy.
