Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday at his Karen residence in Nairobi met Kiambu Leaders as part of his role in ensuring unity of purpose amongst leaders of the region towards meeting the needs of the people of Mt Kenya, as they serve the nation.

Today’s meeting, according to the DP was to help in identifying priority areas in the region’s development.

”This afternoon, I held a working lunch with Members of Parliament from Kiambu County at the Official Residence in Karen, Nairobi. Our discussions were centered on development projects and programs,” Gachagua said.

Last weekend at the Kiambu Golf Club,  during thanksgiving for golf champion Michael Karanga,  the second in command warned that the stakes are too high and the Mt Kenya region cannot afford to have division.

“Our relevance in national leadership lies in our unity. We know what disunity and divisive politics did us in the 1992 and 1997 elections,” he said and called  Mt Kenya UDA MPs to focus on growing the economy.

Gachagua wants the region’s leaders to unite and promote more youth participation in productive, economic activities.

Today’s meeting was attended by the National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwa who is also the MP for Kikuyu,  Senator Karungwo Thangwa,  Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha,  MPs Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika Town), Gabriel Kagombe ( Gatundu South), George Koimburi (Juja), Simon King’ara (Ruiru), John Waithaka (Kiambu), John Wanjiku (Kiambaa), James Kamau Wamacukuru (Kabete) and Joseph Kihangara(Lari).
