Kalonzo: Why I Will Never Support Raila Odinga Again

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has recently declared his unwavering commitment to his presidential aspirations in the upcoming 2027 elections, signaling a potential divergence within the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

In a statement, Kalonzo asserted that he would not throw his support behind Raila Odinga’s presidential bid, expressing that stepping aside for another candidate would effectively lead to his retirement from politics.

For Kalonzo, the decision to forge ahead with his presidential ambitions is grounded in his belief that Kenyans are yearning for a credible alternative to the current administration.

“Giving up my presidential ambition (for Raila) will mean I go home. It’s as simple as that. Giving up my presidential ambition is not an option. The country is saying so, and this time he (William Ruto) better be ready. The country is seeing it, the stars are aligned.” He emphasized this sentiment during a recent interview on NTV

This declaration sets the stage for a potential rift within the Azimio la Umoja coalition, as Raila Odinga’s loss in the recent presidential election has left the coalition reevaluating its strategy for future political endeavors.

Furthermore, Kalonzo announced plans to initiate early campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He believes that the creation of a competitive political landscape is vital, asserting, “At the right time, we are going to make an announcement in the new year because I believe we have to create these two horseraces. Kenyans are crying out for an alternative. They can’t breathe.”
