Four people have lost their lives after being hit by a board at a construction site in Pangani, Nairobi. Another eight individuals were also injured in the incident.

According to the Starehe area police commander, Mr. William Sirengo, four people died on the spot, and the injured were promptly taken to nearby hospitals.

“This is a very shocking incident. The injured victims were rushed to different medical facilities, with those requiring emergency treatment taken to the Kenyatta National Hospital. Three were taken to Abyan Hospital, two to a nearby hospital, and another three to MSF SGBV/Emergency Medical Services Clinic,” Mr. Sirengo told the Nation on Sunday.

However, the Pangani Village Elder, Mr. Jeremiah Kioko, dismissed the police report, claiming that more than 10 people lost their lives in the incident.

“Six people died on the spot, four were taken to a nearby hospital, and others were rushed to Kenyatta. I believe that the number of casualties is higher, given the absence of inspections by the National Construction Authority to assess the safety of the area,” Mr. Kioko insisted.

He urges the government to ensure that all buildings in the area undergo thorough inspections.

“We urge the government to take action against the owner of the building and ensure that a comprehensive inspection is conducted in all construction areas,” he said, adding that some structures in the area are built within a one-month timeframe.
