Kenyan Man Who Left the Country for Canada Turns to Selling Chapati, Makes Sh 320 on One Chapati

Dan Webale, a Kenyan immigrant living in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, has embraced a unique entrepreneurial path to make a living in his new home.

Relocating to North America in 2012, Webale has ingeniously combined his skills as a mechanic and a chef to sustain himself in a foreign land.

Webale’s journey began with a formal education in engineering, but his passion for cooking eventually led him back to the kitchen.

Initially, he secured a job washing dishes and cooking at a local hotel, demonstrating his versatility and adaptability.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted the hospitality industry, forcing him to pivot back to his mechanical skills.

In a recent interview with Kenya Diaspora Media, Webale shared the challenges and triumphs of his life in Canada. Despite the demanding nature of his work as a mechanic, he found a way to leverage his culinary talents.

By making and selling chapatis and samosas in the evenings, Webale supplements his income and keeps his passion for cooking alive.

Remarkably, he receives up to 100 orders daily, with each chapati selling for $2.50 CAD, equivalent to KSh 323.
