In a deeply emotional memorial service held on June 28, 2024, Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi opened up about the reasons behind the delay in burying his late brother, Fred Omondi.

The event, attended by numerous figures from the entertainment industry, showcased the solidarity and support Eric has received during this difficult time.

Eric, visibly shaken and overcome with grief, struggled to deliver his tribute to Fred. Supported by his wife, Lynne Njihia, and close friend Terence Creative, Eric expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support from friends, family, and the wider community.

He highlighted the key role played by Terence Creative and Milly Chebby in organizing the memorial service and subsequent fundraising events.

The decision to delay Fred’s burial was primarily due to the need for extensive preparations to ensure a fitting farewell. Eric explained that his friends stepped in to manage the arrangements, taking over the responsibilities that might have otherwise fallen solely on him.

“A very big thank you to Chebby and Terence. If you don’t know, wao ndio wamepanga hii yote. And Jalas pamoja na Churchill. We were to bury Fred last Saturday, wakanipigia wakaniambia Freddy ni ndugu yako lakini matanga si yako,” Eric said, emphasizing how his friends insisted on taking charge of the funeral preparations.

The preparations included organizing a fundraising show at Carnivore, which raised over a million shillings to cover the burial expenses.

Eric expressed his profound appreciation for this support, noting, “The support has been overwhelming. From Lynn, to mama Lynn, yaani kila mtu. Wacha tumpeleleke home tukampumzishe.”

The memorial service itself was a testament to Fred Omondi’s impact on those around him, with emotional tributes from fellow entertainers like MC Jessy, 2Mbili, and Sandra Dacha.

Their heartfelt speeches painted a picture of a beloved comedian whose legacy will endure in the hearts of many.

Fred Omondi’s final journey will begin on June 28, 2024, with his remains being airlifted to Kisumu. From there, the body will be transported by road to Sega in Siaya County.

The burial service is scheduled for June 29, 2024, at his home in Sega, starting at 10:00 AM.

The delay in his burial, though difficult, allowed for a well-organized and respectful send-off, honoring Fred’s memory and legacy.
