Kebaso Reveals Matiang’i Will Reject Kalonzo-Sifuna Ticket and Mount Solo 2027 Bid

Political activist and Borabu parliamentary aspirant Morara Kebaso has declared that Jubilee Party’s presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i is likely to mount an independent presidential bid if the United Opposition settles on a ticket led by Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Speaking on Tuesday, Kebaso described Matiang’i as the strongest candidate currently linked to the opposition, arguing that the former Interior Cabinet Secretary enjoys a proven record in public service and carries significantly less political baggage than his rivals.

“Matiang’i is the best option. He comes with less baggage; he comes with an excellent track record of performance. If you weigh, you will find that Fred Matiang’i has an excellent performance record. You can actually trust him to work on something,” Kebaso said.

Kebaso maintained that a Kalonzo-Sifuna ticket would make it difficult for Matiang’i to rally behind the coalition, predicting instead that the former Cabinet Secretary would seek the presidency on his own through the Jubilee Party.

According to Kebaso, Matiang’i’s strongest path to State House would be a ticket anchored by himself with a running mate drawn from either the Eastern or Western Kenya regions to broaden his national appeal.

He further argued that an independent Matiang’i candidacy would be more politically viable than joining a coalition ticket, whose internal compromises could weaken his appeal to voters.

“If the United Opposition brings a Kalonzo-Sifuna presidential ticket, then Matiang’i is going to run alone. If Matiang’i runs for president alone, he even stands a better chance. Very good chance, because he will be running on a clean record; he will not be carrying dead weight,” Kebaso said.

Former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni has  also come out to publicly back his fellow Jubilee Party deputy leader, Fred Matiang’i, saying he is a better presidential candidate than Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Kebaso’s comments also coincided with his confirmation that he has formally joined the Jubilee Party, aligning himself with the political camp associated with Matiang’i ahead of the 2027 polls.

“The INJECT Party will remain on the shelf. At the moment, we are working with the party of Chairman Fred Matiang’i, which is the Jubilee Party,” Kebaso said.
