Ruku calls for unity in Ukambani as government strengthens ties with Akamba elders

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has called for unity among leaders and residents of the Ukambani region, saying collaboration between the government and traditional institutions is key to advancing peace, development and prosperity in the area.

Speaking after a consultative meeting with Akamba elders in Kitui County, Ruku said the national government remains committed to working closely with the Akamba Council of Elders to build a resilient and united nation founded on inclusivity and respect for the views of all citizens.

Government and elders partnership

The Cabinet Secretary noted that traditional leadership structures continue to play a pivotal role in fostering social cohesion and supporting development initiatives at the grassroots level.

He said the government values the contribution of elders in promoting harmony within communities and ensuring that development programmes reach the people effectively.

Ruku urged the elders to sustain their partnership with the government in advancing the prosperity of the Ukambani region and the country at large.

“The government remains committed to engaging all stakeholders in building a united and inclusive nation where every citizen has an opportunity to contribute to national development,” he said.

Praise for service delivery

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Akamba Clans Governing Council of Elders, Davis Maeke, commended the government for what he described as notable improvements in service delivery across various sectors.

Maeke said the progress witnessed in key areas has positively impacted the lives of wananchi and strengthened confidence in government programmes.

He reaffirmed the elders’ commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at fostering development, peace, and unity within the region.

The meeting brought together community leaders and elders to discuss issues affecting the region and explore ways of enhancing cooperation between local communities and the government.
