Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa found himself escorted off the red carpet during an event where he attempted to walk alongside President Ruto, sharing a moment of conversation.
A viral video captured the scene, showing one of the President’s aides firmly guiding Mwendwa away, emphasizing that the red carpet was exclusively for the head of state.
The incident unfolded during President William Ruto’s launch of the Talanta Sports City at Jamhuri Grounds. This state-of-the-art facility is earmarked to host the prestigious 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, alongside the Kasarani Stadium.
Cabinet approval for the construction of the Talanta Sports City was secured in October 2023, underscoring Kenya’s dedication to hosting the 38th edition of the continental tournament.
President Ruto, in his address, expressed his contentment with the project’s location in his hometown, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the ministry and the county government to ensure the local community in Ngando benefits from the venture. He highlighted the project’s adherence to world-class standards, integrating military discipline in its construction process.
“I will expect our defense team, Aden Duale, the CDF, and the team to make sure all the timelines we have agreed are kept by the contractor and I expect that there will be supervision every week, every two weeks and I will be here myself every three months until this facility is completed.” Ruto said.
