The local film industry is grappling with disbelief and sorrow as news of the sudden demise of veteran actor Charles ‘Charlie’ Ouda reverberates among fans.

Renowned for his iconic roles in popular shows like Makutano Junction, Junction Junior, Second Family, and Salem, Charlie’s untimely departure has left a void in the hearts of many.

The somber announcement of Charlie’s passing came from his family through a statement, sparking speculation and a collective sense of mourning across Kenya.

What was initially a shocking revelation has taken a more poignant turn, as emerging details suggest that Charlie took his own life after silently battling alcoholism.

Sources close to the actor have shed light on his hidden struggles, revealing that despite appearing outwardly okay on the last day he was seen alive, Charlie was quietly grappling with the challenges of alcoholism.

A poignant detail that amplifies the tragedy is Charlie’s attendance at a party for the casts of Maisha Magic’s ‘Salem Show just before taking his own life.

Videos from the event, shared by co-star Jackie Matubia, capture moments of laughter and camaraderie, underscoring the stark contrast between the joyous occasions and the impending sorrow.

Jackie Matubia, visibly devastated, took to Instagram to share her profound grief and memories of happier times spent with Charles.

In a series of heartfelt posts, she expressed disbelief and sorrow at the sudden departure of a colleague with whom she had shared laughter and joy just a day before.

“My heart is broken, Someone wake me up, with a candle,” wrote Jackie, encapsulating the overwhelming emotions that accompany such unexpected loss.

Charles, who was 38 years old at the time of his passing, had become a beloved figure in the local film industry.

His family, in a heartfelt statement, appealed for privacy during this difficult time, especially for Charlie’s grieving fiancée, Ciku Muriuki, and the wider Ouda family.

“It is with deep sorrow that the family of Charles ‘Charlie’ J. Ouda and Ciru Muriuki inform you of his passing on the night of 3rd February 2024. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend. Charlie was 38 years old,” the statement read.
