A significant number of Kenyans have taken to social media to express their reactions following Harambee Stars’ first defeat in the World Cup qualifiers against Gabon.

Masud Juma provided Kenya with a 1-0 halftime lead, but the hosts mounted a comeback in front of their fans.

Juma headed home into an empty net, capitalizing on a defensive mistake and miscommunication between Gabon goalkeeper Junior Noubi and his defender. This goal came from a long-range cross by Amos Nondi in the 40th minute, offering Kenya hope as they entered halftime with a lead.

However, in the second half, Johnstone Omurwa failed to clear a long-range pass from the Gabon defense. Denis Bouanga capitalized on this mistake, leveling the scores in the 60th minute by lobbing the ball past a charging Patrick Matasi in Kenya’s goal.

Several counter-attacks followed for Kenya as they attempted to regain their lead. Still, it was the hosts who had the last laugh, with Guelor Kanga striking a 20-yard screamer past a helpless Matasi to secure the victory for Gabon in the 88th minute.

In response to the defeat, Kenyans expressed their frustrations on social media, particularly on X, with various reactions and opinions flooding the platform.

This is what they had to say:

George Diano: The government should stop wasting taxpayers money on Harambee stars. Those lazy boys will never amount to anything, we will never go to world cup if we keep on recycling the same salamanders. Michael Olunga is an overrated minion, Nick Mwenda is an academic dwarf & halfwit.

@BlackKingKe1 :Walai hiyo team ingekuwa na wakikuyu kadhaa alafu waskie kuna 2.5m mahali wakishinda niko sure kuna mmoja angefunga an Olympic goal
Steve Muema; We should direct all resources to rugby.
