Transport CS  Kipchumba Murkomen says the ” Ruto Must Go” chants during a football match in Baringo on November 26, 2023, were not directed at the Head of State, but at a FKF official who was at the game.

A viral clip on social media captured the youthful CS being booed off the dais as he attempted to address the crowd during the Governor’s Cup in Baringo County.

The crowd was heard chanting ‘Ruto must go.’

“The men’s finals were postponed after Baringo Youth FC from Kabarnet, Baringo Central, protested their loss against Chemogoch FC from Mogotio,” explained Murkomen.

“The officials did their best to resolve the matter, but the Baringo central team were not satisfied. Being the home team, and with their fans being more than half of the stadium, it was impossible to proceed with the match. The players and the fans poured their frustrations on FKF officials, especially one Mr. Ruto, whom they felt, was not addressing their concerns.”

CS Murkomen, invited by Baringo County Governor Chesire Cheboi to attend the tournament, faced rowdy youth attending the match who expressed their frustration towards FKF officials. The chants led to Murkomen leaving the stage, resulting in the postponement of the OKM Peace Cup tournament.

The men’s finals were specifically postponed due to protests from Baringo Youth FC against their loss to Chemogoch FC from Mogotio. Murkomen explained that the majority of attendees were Baringo Central fanatics, occupying more than half of the stadium.

Their rowdiness made it impractical to continue the match, emphasizing that the discontent was directed at FKF officials and not him or President William Ruto.
