The main suspect in the murder of Eric Maigo, the Finance Director of Nairobi Hospital, has been detained for 21 days to facilitate ongoing investigations.

The suspect, a 16-year-old girl, appeared in court on Wednesday following her arrest on September 26 in the Olympic area within Kibera.

The arrest came in response to a murder report filed at Woodly Annex in Kibra, located within Kilimani subcounty, Nairobi.

According to Corporal Patrick Boge, who filed a miscellaneous application, the report was made on September 15 by Amina Komara at Kibra police station. It detailed a commotion at house number 6 in Woodley Estate Annex Upper in Kibra.

Upon reaching the scene, police officers from Kilimani subcounty discovered the lifeless body of Eric Maigo, aged 37, with multiple stab wounds to his chest, face, and neck.

The scene was secured, and preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect, a minor, was in the company of the deceased before the murder occurred.

She is believed to have attacked Maigo with kitchen knives.

Further investigations revealed that the minor was part of a group involved in the violence that led to Maigo’s death. The murder weapons were recovered from the crime scene.

In an affidavit, Corporal Boge argued that the continued detention of the suspect was crucial for the progression and conclusion of the investigations.

He highlighted the need to record statements from key witnesses, collect fingerprints, conduct photo profiling, verify the suspect’s criminal record, arrange for DNA sampling and analysis by the government chemist, locate and apprehend the suspect’s associates, and escort the girl for mental and age assessments.

Additionally, a medical examination was deemed necessary to assess any injuries sustained during her escape from the crime scene.

Boge also mentioned the requirement to forward the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review and advice.

The case will be mentioned in court on October 18. Eric Maigo was found with 25 stab wounds at his residence in Woodley Estate just last week, a tragic incident that has sparked a thorough investigation into his murder.
