Kimanzi Mbaluka’s Balsons Academy Initiative Boosts Youth Opportunities in Shanzu

Mombasa businessman Kimanzi Mbaluka is steadily building his profile as a key contender for the Shanzu Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat ahead of the 2027 General Elections, positioning himself as an alternative to incumbent Allan Katana.

His growing influence in the area has largely been shaped by community-based initiatives, particularly those focused on youth empowerment through sports and talent development.

At the center of these efforts is Balsons Academy Football Club, a program founded by Mbaluka to provide a structured platform for young people to nurture their abilities while gaining essential life skills.

“Our goal is to give young people in Shanzu a platform where they can grow their talents while building discipline and focus for the future,” Mbaluka said.

The academy offers training designed to improve players’ technical, tactical, and physical abilities, while also emphasizing values such as teamwork, resilience, and commitment. Beyond football, the initiative incorporates mentorship and personal development, reflecting a broader approach to youth empowerment.

“Balsons Academy is not just about football. It is about creating opportunities and guiding young people towards a better path,” he added.

Through partnerships and collaboration with various stakeholders, the program has opened up opportunities for participants, including scholarships, friendly matches, and football seminars.

It has also facilitated international exposure through a partnership with Girona FC, allowing selected players to train and compete abroad.

“The partnership with Girona FC is meant to expose our players to international standards and open doors they may not have imagined,” Mbaluka noted.

Residents and participants say the initiative is already making a difference within the community.

“This program is helping young people stay focused and giving them something positive to work towards,” said one local resident

Observers note that such initiatives play an important role in addressing challenges facing young people, including limited access to structured opportunities and mentorship.

Mbaluka maintains that investing in youth is key to long-term community development.

“We believe that when you invest in youth, you are investing in the future of the entire community,” he said.
