Fresh Details Emerge Over Cyrus Jirongo’s Sudden Death as Petrol Station Worker Reveals Intriguing Circumstances Leading to the Tragic Crash
The death of veteran politician and former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo has continued to raise questions among Kenyans, with fresh details emerging about the circumstances surrounding the road accident that allegedly claimed his life.
Jirongo was reported to have died in the early hours of December 13, 2025, following a head-on collision involving his Mercedes-Benz and a Climax Bus coach along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway.
According to the bus driver, who gave an account of the incident, the former politician had just exited a petrol station when he veered into the bus’s lane while attempting to overtake. The driver claimed this left him with limited options to avoid a collision that could have endangered passengers.
However, a security guard at the petrol station, identified as Ephraim Cheptek, has given a contradictory account, stating that the circumstances leading to the crash were unusual.
Cheptek said Jirongo drove into the petrol station in a manner suggesting he intended to refuel. However, he did not fuel his vehicle and instead drove away shortly after entering the station.
“When he entered the petrol station, he slowed down, and just as he appeared to be about to refuel, he suddenly drove away and rejoined the road. The way he approached and left the petrol station was unusual,” Cheptek said.
He added that he was the only security guard on duty and witnessed what transpired. Cheptek further refuted claims that the road was congested at the time of the accident, insisting that traffic was flowing normally before the crash.
“The road was calm, and there was no traffic jam. The congestion started immediately after the accident when other vehicles began lining up,” he said.
This account contradicts the bus driver’s earlier claims that there was heavy traffic on his lane, prompting the late politician to overtake after leaving the petrol station. Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities seek to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
