Esther Wanjiru’s courageous decision to share her story unveils the painful realities endured by countless women grappling with infertility in their marriages.

Married in 1992, her seven-year journey was marred by heartache and disrespect as she faced the devastating stigma of childlessness.

Instead of empathy, her husband’s response was to bring other women into their home, compounding Wanjiru’s anguish.

“The life I went through for not having a child made my husband disrespect me. He would come with women, and we would sleep in the same bed because I did not have a child. He used to tell me I was a useless sack with nothing. So I decided to walk out on him and go live alone,” she said.

The humiliation of cohabiting with her husband’s infidelities became a daily torment for Wanjiru.

Despite her desire to salvage the marriage, his hurtful words, labeling her as worthless due to her inability to conceive, eroded her self-esteem.

The emotional toll of the situation was unbearable, yet Wanjiru endured, hoping for a change that never came.

Wanjiru’s breaking point came when she was arrested for assaulting one of her husband’s mistresses who attempted to intervene in their troubled marriage.

It was then that she found the strength to leave, seeking solace in her mother’s home to escape the toxic environment she had endured for years.
