Baby Caleb Odanga, a 7-year-old boy who fell from a merry-go-round swing during a school trip, has sadly succumbed to his injuries. Despite a fierce battle for his life at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital Intensive Care Unit, where machines and tubes sustained him, he ultimately lost the fight.

Baby Caleb had suffered a traumatic brain injury, leading to his admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

His father, Mwangi Odanga, expressed the family’s profound grief, stating, “A golden heart stopped beating, and Baby Caleb went to be with the Lord. It is such an immense grief for the family, and we do not know how we shall cope from here.”

“Caleb my precious boy. My bundle of Joy, my true North. Oh God, as a human being l have paid too much. I have met grief in the fiercest way. It hurts so bad. Nitie nguvu mteule,” he wrote.

Caroline Maina, Caleb’s mother, had been tirelessly waiting at the hospital, hoping for her son’s recovery. She shared her heartache, saying, “Since August 8, it has been hard for me because Caleb is my only child.”

Doctors had informed the family that there was no realistic chance of their son’s survival and that no medical interventions could reverse his condition. Despite this devastating prognosis, the family clung to hope and sought opinions from other neurosurgeons.

According to the family, the severity of the damage to their son’s brain was explained to them by medical professionals.

The family is now appealing for support to cover the substantial medical bill, which amounts to Sh1.5 million, as they also begin preparations for Baby Caleb’s burial.
