Wilbroda: How I Found Out My HIV/AIDS Nanny Was secretly Breastfeeding My Son

The celebrated radio presenter Jacque Nyaminde popularlarly known as Wilbroda has opened up about one of the most distressing experiences of her life as a mother, recalling the moment she learned that her nanny was secretly breastfeeding her child.

Speaking during a recent podcast, Wilbroda revealed that she had travelled to Mombasa when she received an anonymous phone call from a woman who claimed her house help had been breastfeeding her son.

At first, she was uncertain of the allegations, but the closeness between her child and the nanny made her anxious.

"I immediately booked the first flight back home,” she said, noting that she tried to monitor the situation quietly without alarming the nanny.

Later that night, her father summoned her to his home, where he broke even more alarming news that the nanny was said to be HIV positive.

The revelation left Wilbroda devastated, fearing for her child’s health.

Her father quickly sought the advice of a doctor, who explained that while risks existed, the only way to be sure was to take the child for testing.

That same night, Wilbroda rushed her son to the hospital with the help of her sister, too shaken to handle the process herself.

“I cried and prayed the whole time,” she recounted. “It was the longest night of my life.”

Fortunately, the results confirmed that her child was fine. However, the ordeal forced her to make a painful decision. Despite her nanny being a young mother with her own dependents, Wilbroda asked her to leave the following day.

The media personality admitted it was a heartbreaking moment because she normally retains house helps for years and maintains close bonds with them. Yet, the risk was too great for her to overlook.

Years later, her son still occasionally asks her to recount the incident, which remains one of the most difficult episodes in her journey as a parent
