Kenya's most wanted Gold Scammer Abbas Bardu Omuyoma arrested after conning a Canadian man USD 280,000

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nairobi Regional Office have arrested Abbas Bardu Omuyoma, alias Ishmael, in connection with a multi-million gold scam that targeted a Canadian investor.

Omuyoma, who has been on the radar of law enforcement over similar allegations, is accused of masterminding one of the most elaborate cons in recent months.

According to investigators, the case began after a formal complaint was filed on September 1, 2025.

The complainant, a Canadian national, alleged that he had been lured into a fraudulent gold deal promising a staggering 550 kilograms of gold nuggets and bars purportedly sourced from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Trusting the scheme, the investor wired USD 280,000 through USDT as part of the agreement. However, the promised gold never materialised. Instead, the investor was left counting heavy losses while the suspects disappeared.

Following the complaint, DCI launched an intensive probe relying on forensic leads to trace the suspects.

Detectives finally pounced on Omuyoma along Dennis Pritt Road in Nairobi, bringing his elaborate operations to a halt. His accomplice, who played a key role in the fraudulent deal, remains at large.

DCI officials revealed that Omuyoma is currently in custody and undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.

Meanwhile, detectives are pursuing his accomplice, with assurances that more arrests will follow.

Gold scams remain one of the most persistent fraud schemes in Nairobi, often targeting unsuspecting foreign investors.

Authorities have repeatedly cautioned potential buyers to conduct due diligence before engaging in such high-value transactions.
