Kenyan travellers can now purchase and activate international mobile data packages directly through the Safaricom M-PESA Super App following the integration of Kwetu eSIM into the platform.
The partnership is aimed at making global mobile connectivity easier for Kenyan tourists, business travellers and other users travelling abroad by allowing them to pay for eSIM data packages using their M-PESA balances.
Through the Kwetu eSIM Mini App, users can browse, purchase and activate digital SIM profiles covering more than 200 destinations worldwide.
The service eliminates the need for travellers to buy physical SIM cards after arriving in foreign countries or rely entirely on international roaming services, which can sometimes attract higher charges.
Kwetu eSIM General Manager Kevin Mwando said the integration was designed to give travellers quicker and more convenient access to mobile data.
“Travelers want instant, reliable data without the friction of physical SIM swaps or complicated payment methods,” Mwando said.

M-PESA Payments for International eSIM Data
One of the key features of the service is direct M-PESA checkout, allowing customers to purchase international data bundles in Kenya shillings without requiring an international debit or credit card.
Users can also receive and activate their eSIM profiles digitally, eliminating the need to insert or replace a physical SIM card.
The service supports dual-SIM functionality, meaning travellers with compatible smartphones can retain their Safaricom numbers for calls and SMS while using Kwetu eSIM for mobile data abroad.
Customers can choose from country-specific, regional and global packages depending on their destinations and length of travel.
Regional packages include options targeting travellers moving within areas such as the East African Community.
How to Access Kwetu eSIM on M-PESA Super App
Customers seeking to purchase a Kwetu eSIM package can open the M-PESA Super App and navigate to the Services or Book & Travel Apps section.
They can then select Kwetu eSIM, choose their preferred destination and data package, and complete payment through M-PESA.
The eSIM profile can then be configured on a compatible smartphone ahead of travel.
The integration comes as demand for digital SIM technology continues to grow among international travellers seeking alternatives to traditional roaming and physical SIM cards.
Kwetu eSIM says the Mini App is already live on the M-PESA Super App and available to customers in Kenya.
