Betting company Betika has come under intense criticism from a section of Kenyan bettors following complaints of delayed withdrawals and unsettled winning bets after Wednesday night’s football matches.
Several customers took to social media to express frustration, claiming that money they attempted to withdraw had either failed to reach their M-Pesa accounts or had been reversed. Others alleged that winning bets remained marked as pending even after the respective matches had ended.
The complaints have triggered speculation among some social media users about whether Betika could be experiencing financial or technical difficulties.
“Why is my withdrawal in Betika not successful?” social media user Kakox asked.
Another bettor, El Mbuzi, questioned why his withdrawal was allegedly being reversed before money was deducted from his betting account.
Johnny raised a similar complaint, claiming his withdrawal was marked as successful and the money deducted from his Betika account but had not reached his M-Pesa wallet.
“@betikaKe mnasema successful withdrawal na Betika account inasema pesa imetolewa lakini haifiki kwa M-Pesa, shida ni gani?” he wrote.
Richkid Wizzy claimed that two bets he won on Wednesday, worth approximately KSh8,000 and KSh6,000, remained pending. He expressed concern over whether customers winning substantially larger amounts would successfully receive their money.
Another user, Dembe, tagged the Betting Control and Licensing Board while accusing Betika of withholding withdrawals despite continuing to receive customer deposits.
The controversy intensified after Kiambi highlighted an alleged case involving a bettor who reportedly turned a stake of just KSh52 into approximately KSh600,000. According to the social media post, settlement of the bet was allegedly still pending.
