Radio personality Steve Jacob Maunda, better known as Shatta Bway, has shared hisĀ  journey of healing and family in a heartfelt interview with comedian Dr. Ofweneke.

Shatta’s life took a drastic turn with the passing of his wife, Rebecca Kukuton, also known as Eva Seoke, on June 25, 2023, during her treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.

In the wake of his wife’s death, Shatta found himself assuming the role of a single parent to their two children.

This profound loss prompted him to reassess his priorities, leading him to make the difficult decision to step away from his radio career in order to dedicate more time to nurturing his children.

ā€œAmong the reasons I quit the radio show was because of the death of my wife. I felt like I needed more time with my children. I looked for a job that is not so demanding. You know as a dad, you are used to delegating things to your wife. Like when the child is sick, you know their mother will take care of that, if it is school, she will follow up but right now, it is you and you. You canā€™t delegate that to someone else. Now I need to be there for my kids.ā€

During the interview, Shatta openly discussed the challenges he faced in his marriage, including moments of discord and his own shortcomings, particularly regarding interactions with other women.

Despite these difficulties, he fondly recalled the cherished memories he shared with his late wife, highlighting the depth of their connection.

One of the most striking revelations from the interview was Shatta’s unequivocal decision not to remarry. For him, marriage was inseparable from parenthood, and with two children already, he felt no desire to pursue it further.

ā€œFor what? I already have two children, a boy and a girl. To me, marriage is about kids. Other things I can do even without marrying. If I were to ever get married is when my kids have children. I am still very young. For now, I am not even thinking about it.ā€

He also expressed hesitance regarding vasectomy, citing his belief in a higher plan.

And about getting a vasectomy, I would not get a vasectomy. Kazi ya Mungu haina makosa.ā€
