Singer and entrepreneur Esther Akoth, famously known as Akothee, has opened up about her journey of faith and personal trials, revealing how her marital breakdown led her to drift away from her religious roots before eventually finding her way back to church.

In a candid confession, Akothee disclosed that after her marriage ended nearly two decades ago, she stopped attending the Seventh-day Adventist Church, a significant departure from her previous devoutness.

Reflecting on her past, she shared a throwback photo from 2006, depicting her performing at a club in Malindi, symbolizing the period when she felt liberated from the constraints of her former life.

Addressing her fans, Akothee posed a thought-provoking question, asking if they had truly understood the journey she had undertaken before becoming the Akothee they admire today.

She emphasized the transformative nature of her experiences, suggesting that her current persona was shaped by the trials she endured along the way.

After parting ways with Mr. Jared, the singer headed to Mombasa, where she intended to engage in activities to sustain herself.

“I always wanted to be a taxi driver. I didn’t have papers to go knocking on someone’s door; I only had my Form 4 certificates. (Mr. Jared) refused my documents and my ID. When I went to Mombasa, I couldn’t get any job, even being a waitress requires an ID,” Akothee recounted.

It was during her time in Mombasa that she met the father of her fourth child, with whom she had her first son, Prince Ojwang.

In 2022, Akothee confirmed that her marriage to Mr. Jared Otieno was officially dissolved on May 22, 2011, after a divorce case was filed in 2007.

“The divorce papers were filed in 2007, Absolute Decree (Granted). So, this marriage was dissolved on May 22, 2011, by the High Court,” she said.
