AFC Leopards Chairman Dan Shikanda has strongly denied allegations of being a Gor Mahia mole, following accusations from some fans after his team’s narrow defeat against Gor Mahia on Sunday.

In an interview with the Star, Shikanda dismissed claims from Leopards fans as baseless, asserting that his previous association with Gor Mahia should not lead to suspicions that he favored them in the match.

“Labeling me a sell-out is completely unfounded. While it’s true I once played for Gor, it’s ludicrous to suggest that I would conspire to assist them in defeating Leopards in the Mashemeji derby,” Shikanda emphasized.

The experienced administrator urged fans to remain patient as the management works tirelessly to elevate the club’s status.

“We have positive intentions and ambitious plans for the club, but achieving them will be challenging without the support we deserve,” Shikanda added.

Shikanda also came to the defense of goalkeeper Levis Opiyo, whose costly mistake led to an early goal in the first half. Opiyo’s error allowed K’Ogalo’s midfielder Austin Odhiambo to capitalize and score.

Shikanda appealed to Ingwe fans to refrain from criticizing Opiyo further, acknowledging the psychological toll the incident has taken on the goalkeeper.

“I’ve spoken to Opiyo, and he is deeply remorseful about the incident. Continuously disparaging him would only exacerbate the situation and harm his mental well-being,” Shikanda emphasized.

Furthermore, Shikanda criticized fans for overlooking Opiyo’s previous exceptional performances in the Mashemeji Derby.

“Why is it that nobody acknowledged his remarkable saves during our previous game against Gor Mahia last year, where Maxwell Otieno also scored for us?” Shikanda questioned.
