On Monday morning, detectives from Kasarani Police Station visited the harrowing scene in Roysambu where a 20-year-old girl met a gruesome fate, and her dismembered body parts were callously dumped in a trash bin.

The current investigation places a spotlight on CCTV footage near the building housing an Airbnb, where the suspect allegedly committed the heinous act on Saturday night before making a swift escape.

For over six hours, the dedicated detectives tirelessly combed through houses and shops, fervently seeking any evidence that could aid in tracking down the suspect who remains at large.

CCTV footage, obtained by Citizen TV and under intense scrutiny by investigators, captured the suspect moments before the alleged crime unfolded. The clip, recorded around 4:20 pm on Saturday, shows the suspect walking and talking on the phone outside a shop adjacent to the building where the shocking discovery was made.

In the footage, the suspect, wearing a white cap and spectacles, appears to be in a hurry, holding a black bag tightly in his hand. He walks directly to the cashier, hands over his phone, receives a key, and promptly leaves. Five minutes later, he returns, settles the payment with the cashier, and departs.

Regrettably, this was the last recorded sighting of the suspect. He was expected to return the keys on Sunday morning but failed to do so.

The Airbnb property’s proprietor, Risper Muthoni, received a distressing call from the caretaker who stumbled upon the gruesome scene inside the trash bag in the house.

The victim’s remains, taken to City Mortuary, have been positively identified by the family, who, understandably distressed, declined media interviews, expressing their desire to await the completion of the police investigations.

Sources revealed to Citizen TV that the 20-year-old girl had informed a friend that she was going for dinner with someone in Roysambu but failed to show up the following day, with her phone switched off.

This incident, occurring just two weeks after the killing of Starlet Wahu in South B, has prompted the government to issue new directives to private security officers guarding residential areas, Airbnbs, hotels, and lodgings.

According to the directive signed by Private Security Regulatory Authority CEO Fazul Mahamed, private security officers must now diligently verify and record the details of persons entering premises, maintain thorough logs of activities, and ensure that security measures, including working CCTVs, are in place. Failure to comply may result in the revocation of licenses and legal prosecution.
