In a heart-wrenching incident in Kisumu, Kenya, the consequences of uncontrolled emotions left a man blinded and a woman facing the grim reality of her actions.

The tragic story unfolded when 24-year-old Ms. Nazra Shantel allegedly poured acid on her husband’s face while he slept, leaving 29-year-old Mr. Julius Obat with life-altering injuries.

According to reports, the incident occurred in Otwero village within Seme, Kisumu County.

“The incident happened in Otwero village within Seme in Kisumu County and the man is currently at Sabatia Eye Hospital following the incident where he is receiving treatment,” the police report read in part.

The apparent catalyst for this horrifying act of violence was the discovery of a text message in Mr. Obat’s phone that ignited a storm of anger within Ms. Shantel. Unable to cope with her emotions, she resorted to a heinous act that forever changed both their lives.

In the aftermath of the attack, Mr. Obat was rushed to a local hospital in Seme Sub-County and later transferred to Sabatia Eye Hospital for specialized treatment.

His road to recovery is uncertain, and he faces physical, emotional, and psychological challenges as he attempts to rebuild his life.

Meanwhile, Ms. Shantel was saved from a furious mob that sought revenge for her actions. She now finds herself in police custody at Ratta Police Station, awaiting her scheduled court appearance on Monday, August 7, 2023.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and Ms. Shantel is being interrogated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisumu.

A tragic twist to the story is that the couple had once shared moments of joy and love, as depicted on Ms. Shantel’s now-deactivated Facebook account.

Their relationship reportedly began in 2018, and they have a child together.
