fly748.com has backed an initiative aimed at helping young Kenyans pursue careers in aviation by easing some of the financial barriers associated with professional training.
The airline supported the Kenya Association of Air Operators (KAAO) Aviation Sports Day 2026, which brought together pilots, engineers, air traffic controllers and other aviation professionals for sports, networking and fundraising.
Proceeds from the event will be used to support deserving young people interested in aviation careers but who may be unable to meet the high cost of training.
Speaking during the event, fly748.com Head of Scheduled Services George Oduor said the aviation industry has a role to play in creating opportunities for young people with talent and ambition.
“Every pilot, engineer and aviation professional started with a dream. For many talented young Kenyans, however, the cost of turning that dream into a career remains a major barrier,” Oduor said.
He added that financial limitations should not prevent qualified and committed young people from building careers in the industry.
“As an industry, we have a responsibility to help create opportunities for the next generation. Talent, commitment and ability should have the opportunity to thrive regardless of financial circumstances,” he said.
Aviation remains one of the more expensive professional fields to enter, particularly for aspiring pilots who must pay for flight training, examinations, licences and other regulatory requirements before qualifying.
According to Oduor, supporting training opportunities for young people will be important as Kenya’s aviation sector continues to expand.
He also said the Aviation Sports Day offered industry professionals an opportunity to interact outside their normal working environments while promoting teamwork and wellness.
“Aviation is a team effort in every sense. From the cockpit and engineering hangar to air traffic control, airports and ground operations, the industry depends on people working together,” Oduor said.
He noted that bringing aviation professionals together for such initiatives can strengthen cooperation within the sector while also supporting future professionals.
“Events such as this allow us to promote wellness and teamwork while coming together for a cause that can have a lasting impact on the industry,” he added.
Kenya’s aviation industry continues to play an important role in supporting tourism, trade and regional connectivity, increasing the need for skilled professionals across different areas of the sector.
Oduor said the expansion of airline fleets and routes must go hand in hand with investment in human capital.
“We can expand fleets and open new routes, but that growth must be supported by people with the skills to operate, maintain and manage the aviation industry,” he said.
“Supporting young people today is therefore an investment in the aviation industry we want to build for tomorrow.”
