Political activist Morara Kebaso has opened another front in his increasingly public dispute with his estranged wife, Mercy, claiming he invested heavily in her family and even built her parents a multi-million-shilling home in Kisii before constructing a house for his own parents.
Morara made the revelations while defending himself against criticism surrounding the collapse of his marriage and allegations that he had failed in his responsibilities as a husband and father.
According to Morara, when he met Mercy, her parents were living in a modest house in Gionseri, Bobasi, Kisii County.
Despite having not yet built a house for his own parents, Morara claims he made the decision to prioritise Mercy’s family.
“When I met Mercy, this was her parents’ house. By then I had not built a house for my parents. But I made a decision that we would build for her parents first,” Morara said.
He claimed the old house was demolished before he personally supervised the construction and furnishing of a new home.
Morara provided unusually detailed information about the project, saying he sourced the workers himself and travelled to Kisii almost every week to supervise construction.
He identified his foreman as Joshua from Kisii, the head mason as Sammy from Nyeri and the plumber as Andrew from Kakamega. He further claimed he bought roofing materials in Ruiru and tiles from KEDA, while a contractor named Edwin handled the gypsum work.
Morara even claimed he personally selected curtains from a supplier in Eastleigh.
“The people of Gionseri in Bobasi can bear me witness,” he said.
The activist questioned why he was facing widespread criticism despite what he described as the sacrifices he made for Mercy and her family.
“What then do you say to a man like me who chose to support Mercy’s parents before his own parents? Should I be trolled on social media? Wapi ile heshima kidogo mmebakisha ya wanaume kama mimi?” he posed.
His latest remarks come amid another dispute involving the education of their children.
Morara recently claimed the children had been attending Rophine School at a cost of approximately KSh120,000 per term before Mercy transferred two of them to an international school while he was away in China.
He alleged the move increased their educational expenses to approximately KSh1 million per term and maintained that he had not been consulted beforehand.
Morara has also responded to social media users encouraging people to support Mercy’s business following their separation.
While welcoming support for the business, Morara claimed he provided the capital used to establish it.
“Those are my children. Support the business so that they can eat and live a good life. But do you know where the money to start that business came from?” he said.
Morara has now vowed to publicly produce evidence supporting his version of events and challenged his critics to table all accusations against him at once.
“For everything I say from now on, I will come with the evidence,” he said. “Bring everything you have against me and table it quickly. Wekeni kila kitu kwa meza mara moja. I want to respond once and for all and go back to building my dreams.”
