Robert Alai has formally declared his intention to contest the Dagoretti North parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections and will face off with incumbent Beatrice Elachi for the ODM ticket in the party primaries.
In a carefully worded statement on Saturday, the Kileleshwa MCA presented his bid as a request for promotion from county to national leadership, arguing that his four years in office have prepared him for the larger responsibilities of Parliament.
“Unlike many job applications, mine is not addressed to a boardroom. It is addressed to every parent struggling to educate a child, every youth searching for work, every trader trying to grow a business, every woman worried about security, every resident stuck in traffic, and every family hoping for a better future,” Alai’s statement reads in part.
Alai anchors his candidature on his record as Kileleshwa MCA, arguing that residents have already had the opportunity to judge his leadership style.
“I believe I am qualified because you have already supervised my work,” he says. “For the past four years, I have served as the Member of County Assembly for Kileleshwa Ward, where you have seen my work ethic, my accessibility and my willingness to stand where many leaders remain silent.”
The Kileleshwa MCA has been meeting Dagoretti North residents and grassroots ODM leaders across the constituency, explaining his move ahead of yesterday’s announcement.
Long before entering elective politics, Alai built a reputation as one of Kenya’s most outspoken digital activists, using social media to challenge public institutions, expose governance failures and shape national conversations.
