The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall and cool weather across Nairobi and several counties from Sunday, August 2, to Thursday, August 6, with intermittent showers expected in parts of western, central and Rift Valley regions as cloudy conditions persist.
The five-day forecast, issued on July 31, said cool and cloudy conditions will affect parts of Nairobi, Kisii, Kericho, Kajiado, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Machakos, Kitui, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Isiolo and Wajir.
The department said several counties are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at different times during the forecast period.
Coast
Along the Coast, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu are expected to receive light showers on some mornings before sunny intervals develop in the afternoon.
Partly cloudy conditions are forecast at night throughout the period, while daytime temperatures are expected to range between 28 and 31 degrees Celsius.
Western Kenya
Western counties including Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Vihiga and Bungoma are forecast to receive rainfall during the five-day period.
The department said light to moderate showers are expected in several areas, with afternoon rainfall likely in some counties.
Parts of the Rift Valley, including Uasin Gishu, Nandi and West Pokot, are also expected to receive rainfall.
Nandi is forecast to receive light morning rain and moderate afternoon showers on Sunday, while parts of Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu are expected to record moderate showers during the week.
Rift Valley
Kericho, Bomet, Nakuru and Laikipia are among the Rift Valley counties expected to receive rainfall.
Kericho is forecast to experience light to moderate showers throughout the period, while Bomet is expected to receive light and moderate rainfall at different times.
Central Region
Murang’a, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri and Nyandarua will continue to experience cool conditions, with cloudy and sunny intervals during the forecast period.
Murang’a is expected to record daytime temperatures of between 19 and 20 degrees Celsius, with nighttime temperatures holding at around 13 degrees.
Nyeri will experience daytime temperatures of between 21 and 22 degrees, while overnight temperatures are expected to range between 12 and 14 degrees.
Nyandarua is forecast to record some of the country’s lowest temperatures, with minimum temperatures of between 7 and 9 degrees. The county is also expected to receive moderate showers on Sunday afternoon and light rainfall on some other days.
Temperatures
Temperatures are expected to vary across the country during the forecast period.
Mandera is forecast to record the highest daytime temperatures, reaching up to 37 degrees Celsius. Garissa and Wajir are expected to record maximum temperatures of about 34 degrees.
Marsabit is expected to remain cooler, with daytime temperatures ranging between 24 and 25 degrees and overnight temperatures between 14 and 15 degrees.
In Nairobi, daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 22 and 24 degrees, while nighttime temperatures will remain between 12 and 13 degrees.
Kisii is expected to record daytime temperatures of between 27 and 29 degrees, with minimum temperatures ranging from 13 to 16 degrees.
Northern counties are expected to experience mostly sunny conditions during the day and partly cloudy nights. However, Isiolo, Marsabit and Wajir are forecast to remain relatively cool, with Isiolo’s overnight temperatures ranging between 17 and 19 degrees.
