Many kenyans have had high opportunities that they will land jobs once they pursue their education and pass with flying colour but that wasn;t the case of Bernadette Aoko whom despite scoring an A plain at Lugulu Girls Highschool and emerging 3rd best in 2016 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education {kcse} and went ahead to pursue a medicine course she found herself in the streets begging for a job.

From an early age, Aoko harbored a dream of becoming a doctor—a vision fueled by her passion for medicine and inspired by her mother’s unwavering support.

Raised singlehandedly by her mother after losing her father at a tender age, Aoko understood the value of education as a means to achieve her ambitions.

Her mother, a teacher at Asumbi Teachers College, instilled in her the belief that education was the greatest gift she could receive.

Aoko’s success in the KCSE exams was a moment of triumph not only for her but also for her family and teachers who had nurtured and encouraged her along the way.

However, despite her academic prowess, the path to realizing her dream posed unforeseen challenges.

Despite her qualifications, Aoko found herself among the many skilled professionals struggling to secure employment in Kenya’s competitive job market.

Undeterred by the hurdles she faced, Aoko joined the ranks of protesting health workers advocating for fair opportunities in the healthcare sector.

“Daktari hata hawezi toa pesa harambee. Post medical interns,” read her placard.

“How it started vs how it’s going. I said I wanted to be a doctor seven years ago, I became a doctor, and now the government is failing me,” she captioned the post.
