A somber atmosphere enveloped the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) following the tragic death of a first-year student who died by suicide on Saturday, March 30.
The student, enrolled in the Computer Science program, made the harrowing decision to jump from the fourth floor of a five-story hostel building.
Despite efforts to save him, including emergency interventions, the outcome was devastatingly irreversible.
His body was subsequently transferred to Thika Level 5 Hospital as authorities awaited the results of a postmortem examination.
Prior to the unfortunate incident, it emerged that the deceased had applied for a scholarship at a university in the United States.
With hopes high and anticipation building, he also pursued a visa, eagerly awaiting a response from the institution.
However, his dreams were shattered when he received a rejection letter.
The rejection seemed to have a profound impact on the student, leading him to a state of despair and hopelessness.
Despite seeking solace from his father, who provided comfort and encouragement, the weight of the situation proved too heavy to bear.
