Lizzie Muthoni Wanyoike, woman behind the Nairobi Institute of Technology and Business Studies (NITBS), passed away on January 14, 2024, at the age of 73.

In 1999, Lizzie Wanyoike established NITBS, formerly known as the Nairobi Institute of Business Studies. Under her leadership, the institution flourished into one of Kenya’s premier hospitality colleges, boasting over 7,000 students across various professional courses.

With branches strategically located in Thika Town, Nairobi CBD, Ruiru – Kimbo (headquarters), and Ongata Rongai, NITBS became synonymous with quality education in the hospitality sector.

Beyond her contributions to education, Lizzie Wanyoike was a savvy entrepreneur who ventured into diverse business domains, including investments in education, real estate, and land.

Over a span of 25 years following her separation from her late ex-husband, Mr. Mburu Wanyoike, she transformed her ventures into a billion-dollar empire.

Despite their separation in 1997, Lizzie consistently emphasized that their parting was driven by divergent investment perspectives rather than emotional differences.

The funeral arrangements for Lizzie Muthoni Wanyoike are scheduled for January 23, 2024, at her ex-husband’s hometown.

Prior to the funeral, prayers are set to be conducted in Garden Estate, Oaklane, starting from January 16, 2024.

A memorial service is also planned for January 18, 2024, at the ACK St. Joseph of Arimathea, Thome Estate, providing an opportunity for friends, family, and colleagues to pay their respects.
