Recently, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s approach to boxing champion Conjestina Achieng’s recovery has come under scrutiny, with Kenyan comedienne Mammito Eunice taking to social media to express her disapproval.

Conjestina Achieng, a former boxing champion, has battled mental health challenges, and her struggles have been well-documented over the years.

Mike Sonko, known for his philanthropic efforts, especially towards Conjestina’s well-being, recently admitted her to the Mombasa Women’s Rehabilitation Centre, stating that this would be her third and final chance at recovery.

However, Mammito Eunice, in a series of social media posts, challenged the rigidity of Sonko’s stance. She emphasized the intricate nature of mental illness, shedding light on the time and patience required for individuals to heal fully.

“Mental illness is intense, and it takes time for someone to recover fully… it’s a process, and you can’t limit when someone will fully recover,” Mammito articulated.

Mammito also underscored the significance of kindness and love when dealing with mental health challenges.

“Her willingness to go to rehab is a step, so be kind. Let her heal at her own pace! Don’t be harsh where kindness and love are needed,” Mammito added.

Sonko, in his attempt to assist Conjestina, expressed regret for the perceived failure of his previous efforts.

“Even though our chances in Conjestina’s healing journey were watered down, I’m a person who doesn’t give up in life. It is for this reason that we have given Conjestina the third and last chance again on her case. I just want to let the public know that she was readmitted at the Mombasa Women Rehabilitation Centre where she will start her treatment afresh under the care of a group of specialists, including councillors, consultants and physiatrists,” Sonko stated.
