Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has broken his silence after being arrested for assaulting Malaha Member of County Assembly Peter Walunya during a funeral in Kakamega.

Expressing his frustration over what he deemed an unwarranted arrest, Salasya questioned why he had been a repeated target of attacks without any perpetrators being brought to justice.

He lamented that his vehicle had been stoned four times, and he himself had been attacked on multiple occasions without anyone facing legal consequences.

Sharing a photo on his social media pages, Salasya displayed his damaged Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, claiming it was the result of an attack orchestrated by unidentified individuals.

In recounting his experience in police custody during a public gathering, Salasya painted a grim picture, stating that he was forced to sleep on a bare floor without a mattress or blanket.

Despite the adversities he faced, the embattled MP vowed to forgive those who attacked him, expressing a resilient spirit.

The incident leading to Salasya’s arrest unfolded during a funeral where he was granted an opportunity to address mourners.

It was during this address that he identified Walunya, who criticized Salasya for his alleged lack of decorum. The situation escalated when Salasya shouted down the MCA and proceeded to physically assault him in full view of cameras.

Charged with assaulting and causing actual bodily harm, as well as creating a disturbance in violation of section 95 (1) of the penal code, Salasya was released on a KSh50,000 cash bail.

He is slated to appear in court on Tuesday, January 16, where the legal proceedings surrounding this incident will unfold.
