A year ago, reports surfaced that Classic 105 Morning show host Maina Kageni was set to retire and relocate to the US, where he mentioned plans to open a club in Miami.

It was also reported that radio personality Mike Mondo was poised to replace him upon his resignation.

Addressing these claims a year later in an interview with the Star, Mondo said that while many listeners see him as a replica of Maina Kageni, he will never be him.

When asked about how he felt regarding the constant comparison, he stated:

“It’s OK. I feel like it’s a compliment because he is a great radio host, but I will never be Maina.”

The intrigue surrounding Mondo deepens as he finds himself increasingly involved in the Morning Show on Classic 105, a slot traditionally dominated by Maina Kageni. When asked about this shift, Mondo explained, “We are trying to see how that breakfast show will be. We are trying to see how to diversify.”

The speculation reaches its zenith when considering Maina Kageni’s previous announcement about retiring and relocating to the US in 2022.

“Come next year I am done. I am retiring from this job, I plan on running a club in Miami.”

Asked where he will be living, Maina says he already has a house.

“I will be living in my condor. I bought it kitambo.”
