Social media enthusiast Scorphine Maverick Aoko Otieno is grappling with severe health concerns following her recent arrest and detention. Aoko, widely recognized for her outspoken presence online, was apprehended by police on Friday after posting several controversial statements on social media.

Reports indicate that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrived at Aoko’s residence in the city and forcibly took her into custody.

The arrest, which appeared to catch Aoko off guard, allegedly occurred while she was in a vulnerable state.

In a post shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Aoko described the distressing ordeal, claiming that 100 masked DCI officers were involved in her arrest.

She further alleged that she was subjected to harassment and was interrogated for hours regarding her tweets about a public figure named Soipan and the First Family. Following the interrogation, Aoko was detained for three days.

Aoko’s post also revealed that she is now fearing for the loss of her pregnancy, which she believes has been jeopardized by the traumatic experience of her arrest and subsequent detention.

In a dramatic turn of events, Aoko was charged in court today, August 19, 2024.

The complainant in the case has been identified as Beth Wambui Mbuitu. Aoko now faces three charges, with the first count accusing her of publishing false information under Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018.

In count two, Aoko has been charged with cyber harassment contrary to Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes.

In the third count, she has been charged with fraudulent use of electronic data contrary to Section 38 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act No. 5 of 2018.

The charge sheet accuses Aoko of disseminating false and defamatory information about Wambui on her X account, previously known as Twitter.

The document states, “On the 3rd day of August 2024 at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before the court, knowingly and unlawfully published false, defamatory and threatening information online, while using the X Corp Account dubbed: Maverick Aoko @AokoOtieno_.”

Wambui claims that Aoko’s online posts were intentionally malicious, designed to incite fear and damage her professional reputation and personal well-being.
